Thick grey cloud covered the mountains, the light lacked contrast, and it felt increasingly unlikely that I'd come home with an image worth printing.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThen I noticed the clouds.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThey were racing across the face of Mount Temple, constantly revealing and concealing the summit. One moment the mountain stood proudly against the sky; the next it disappeared completely into the mist.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eI pulled into a roadside viewpoint and waited.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eWith my camera held firmly to my eye, I followed the mountain through the viewfinder, watching for the instant when cloud and rock would come together exactly as I had imagined. There were several close calls. My arms began to ache from holding the camera ready. More than once I lowered it, only to raise it again seconds later.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eEventually, the mountain revealed itself.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eWrapped in a soft embrace of cloud, Mount Temple appeared for only a moment before disappearing once more. The subdued light that had frustrated me all afternoon suddenly became its greatest strength.
